Testosterone treatment options

Testosterone injections IM (intramuscularly). Testosterone cypionate is given in muscle typically once every week. In some cases more frequent or less frequent injections are recommended. The lateral thigh muscle is most often used when self administering the injection. Injection sites are alternated weekly ( left, right, left, right, etc.)

Testosterone injections subq (subcutaneously). Testosterone cypionate is given just under the skin typically twice per week. The abdominal area around the ‘belly button” is most often used as injection sites. Other sites for injection include the lateral thigh and glut (butt).

Testosterone cream (high strength). Testosterone cream is applied to the skin daily, most commonly first thing in the morning. The inner arms or thighs are most commonly used sites for application. T cream can work well but it needs to be dosed high enough in order to achieve beneficial levels and results. Some men (probably less than 20%) will not absorb the T cream well through their skin and thus will need to consider other treatment options like injections.

Non-testosterone treatment options

these options are only effective given the testicles are functioning properly, ie. not in failure.

HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). HCG is a subq injection given typically every other day or daily. Sublingual tablets of this medication can also be made by compounding pharmacies. HCG is what’s called a “LH analog”. It acts just like LH (luteinizing hormone) and as such stimulates the Leydig cells of the testes to produce testosterone. HCG treatment will not affect fertility like TRT alone.
